The Admiral's Regiment

Admiral's Regiment 1664

The Admiral's Regiment in 1664: The Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot. Disbanded in 1689 following the Glorious Revolution.

Notice the "Twelve Apostiles" on the belt, indicating matchlocks.

This was a very large regiment of 1200 men organized into companies of 200. Several companies served in the American colonies. At the time, the Dutch still held New Netherlands in what is now New York. There were grenadiers but they did not serve in North America.

The coat color is usually depicted as that bright yellow, but something more akin to the buff color on the right is also seen. I think the yellow is way more cool.
